Review: Summer on The Short Bus by Bethany Crandell

Title: Summer On The Short Bus
Author: Bethany Crandell
Publication: April 1st, 2014, Running Press Teens
Format: Paperback, 256 pages
Source: A Christmas Gift from Bethany Crandell! (Thank you Manager!)

Synopsis:

Cricket Montgomery has been thrown under the short bus. Shipped off to a summer camp by her father, Cricket is forced to play babysitter to a bunch of whiny kids—or so she thinks. When she realizes this camp is actually for teens with special needs, Cricket doubts she has what it takes to endure twenty-four hours, let alone two weeks. Thanks to her dangerously cute co-counselor, Quinn, there may be a slim chance for survival. However, between the campers’ unpredictability and disregard for personal space, Cricket’s limits get pushed. She will have to decide if suffering through her own handicapped hell is worth a summer romance—and losing her sanity.

Misfit Review:

Trying to change for the better seems to be a challenge for most people because they think it might break a ritual, a sense of self or a characteristic they hold. For the protagonist of Bethany Crandell's Summer On The Short Bus, Cricket, it holds very true.

Upcoming Books With TO DIE FOR Covers

Hi there Misfit Booknerds! As a motto for some, "Don't judge a book by it's cover." and yes, it does feel a tad wicked to judge a beauty of a book by just its outer appearance. However, book covers are becoming more diverse and inclined to showing beautiful colors and even textures, with typography that catches one's aesthetic.

Gorgeous book covers have now become a trend. (We'll get to naked hardcovers next time. *winks*)

Misfit Talks: Losing Creative Juices

Hi there Misfit booknerds! I have a small dilemma, which could lead to me basically giving up on life. Just kidding. But still, I'm finding myself rather low on creativity lately.

Now I know putting up posts and stuff such as this and talking about certain things like books and authors and whatnot seems creative, but there's so much more ideas I had in mind before that I shut myself down, and now, my brain is crying. Help.

Book Expo America Blues + Newbie Links

Hello there Misfit booknerds!!! It's actually that time of year again where authors, publishers, bloggers, readers and more come together to celebrate books and everything related to literature with Book Expo America or BEA for short.

It's a huge dream of mine to actually go to New York City, probably live there, work on a novel and be known and stuff. It has been one of my greatest aspirations... other than the fact that I was hooked to Gossip Girl. Anyway, I've heard of BEA around 2 years ago, and a year ago, I was immersed to how beautiful and amazing the whole event is!

SYNOPSIS:

Kell is one of the last Travelers—rare magicians who choose a parallel universe to visit.

Grey London is dirty, boring, lacks magic, ruled by mad King George. Red London is where life and magic are revered, and the Maresh Dynasty presides over a flourishing empire. White London is ruled by whoever has murdered their way to the throne. People fight to control magic, and the magic fights back, draining the city to its very bones. Once there was Black London - but no one speaks of that now.

Officially, Kell is the Red Traveler, personal ambassador and adopted Prince of Red London, carrying the monthly correspondences between royals of each London. Unofficially, Kell smuggles for those willing to pay for even a glimpse of a world they’ll never see. This dangerous hobby sets him up for accidental treason. Fleeing into Grey London, Kell runs afoul of Delilah Bard, a cut-purse with lofty aspirations. She robs him, saves him from a dangerous enemy, then forces him to another world for her 'proper adventure'.

But perilous magic is afoot, and treachery lurks at every turn. To save all of the worlds, Kell and Lila will first need to stay alive — trickier than they hoped.

Misfit Review:

Magic is a myth that I wish truly existed, or better yet lived through us, coursed through our veins and affected our lives. Oh well to wishful thinking. That's why I love reading fantasy stories that add the element of magic and V.E. Schwab's A Darker Shade of Magic did not fail my expectations.

Top Ten Tuesday: Desperate Demands To Meet These Authors

Hello there Misfit Booknerds! Did you miss me? I sure did! I took a week off or two from blogging (like I always do), to focus on summer school and some stuff for our thesis... also coz I'm lazy... and also I was catching up with some reading. Anyway, I have missed doing features and one of them is for Top Ten Tuesday, which is one of my favorites.

If you have my feature on "Authors I Wish Were My Best Friends," most of them will probably be in this list, so I don't know if this makes it all easier or pure and utter torture. Let's get started.

Misfit Talks: My Thoughts Are In British

Hi there Misfit Booknerds! How long has it been since I actually shared something non-bookish related? Oh. That failed Hiatus post. Yeah. Such a fail. This time however, I am not gonna fail to share something about me that might get you either cringing, raising an eyebrow or laughing at me.

My thoughts are in British, like when Dean Pelton of Community said that his thoughts are actually in French. And when I say British, I mean, my mind talks with a British accent, like right now as I am typing this whacked up story, my head is saying it with that accent. It's not like it's a problem coz I'm in love with British accents, no matter how posh or thick they may be.

SYNOPSIS:

When nineteen-year-old huntress Feyre kills a wolf in the woods, a beast-like creature arrives to demand retribution for it. Dragged to a treacherous magical land she only knows about from legends, Feyre discovers that her captor is not an animal, but Tamlin—one of the lethal, immortal faeries who once ruled their world.

As she dwells on his estate, her feelings for Tamlin transform from icy hostility into a fiery passion that burns through every lie and warning she's been told about the beautiful, dangerous world of the Fae. But an ancient, wicked shadow grows over the faerie lands, and Feyre must find a way to stop it . . . or doom Tamlin—and his world—forever.

Misfit Review:

As someone who has stepped into adulthood, you might think I'm not anymore bound to the wonders of fairy tales but in fact, they have been a huge part of my upbringing, thus my continuous love for them. Sarah J. Maas' new novel will indeed fill up that fairy tail void while also bringing a more mature flair that will set you on fire.

Review: Solitaire by Alice Oseman

Title: Solitaire
Author: Alice Oseman
Publication: March 30th 2015, HarperTeen
Format: e-ARC
Source: From the publisher (Many thanks to HarperTeen!)
Buy it on: Amazon | Barnes and Noble | iBooks | The Book Depository | Kobo | National Book Store / Fully Booked (PH)

SYNOPSIS:

In case you’re wondering, this is not a love story.

My name is Tori Spring. I like to sleep and I like to blog. Last year – before all that stuff with Charlie and before I had to face the harsh realities of A-Levels and university applications and the fact that one day I really will have to start talking to people – I had friends. Things were very different, I guess, but that’s all over now.

Now there’s Solitaire. And Michael Holden.

I don’t know what Solitaire are trying to do, and I don’t care about Michael Holden.

I really don’t.

Misfit Review:

Grab a depressing girl, a depressing family, a hyper yet angry teenage boy, a childhood friend coming back and a manipulative group of people in one novel, then it would seem like the best thing in the world for a novel... and yet I dunno exactly how I should feel about it.
