Waiting On Wednesday #2: The Truth About Alice

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Breaking the Spine that spotlights upcoming releases that we are just waiting to have our hands on!

Title: The Truth About Alice
Author: Jennifer Mathieu
Publication: Roaring Book Press
Expected Release Date: 03 June 2014

Synopsis:
Everyone has a lot to say about Alice Franklin, and it’s stopped mattering whether it’s true. The rumors started at a party when Alice supposedly had sex with two guys in one night. When school starts everyone almost forgets about Alice until one of those guys, super-popular Brandon, dies in a car wreck that was allegedly all Alice’s fault. Now the only friend she has is a boy who may be the only other person who knows the truth, but is too afraid to admit it. Told from the perspectives of popular girl Elaine, football star Josh, former outcast Kelsie, and shy genius Kurt, we see how everyone has a motive to bring – and keep – Alice down.

About The Author:

Jennifer Mathieu is an English teacher, writer, wife, and mom who writes books for and about young adults. Her debut novel, THE TRUTH ABOUT ALICE, will be out in the spring of 2014. Her favorite things include chocolate, pepperoni pizza, and this super hilarious 1980s sitcom about four retired women called The Golden Girls. She can basically quote every episode. She lives with her husband, son, one rescue dog, one fat cat, and another cat that is even fatter than the fat cat. When it comes to what she reads, She loves realistic young adult fiction (duh), creative nonfiction, super scandalous tell-all memoirs and unauthorized biographies, and basically anything that hooks her on the first page.

TOP TEN AWESOME AND BADASS GIRLS ON BOOKS

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created and hosted by The Broke and the Bookish where, each week, a Top Ten list is posted based on a particular topic.

My first top ten list was such a success, and I thank those who have commented! I appreciated the small number of you and you have no idea how much it means to me!

Anyway, this week's TOP TEN topic is a freebie! BOOYEAH!! I have so many things in mind *chugs in thinking juice* But I worry that someone might have done this already. Oh well!  Let's pump it!

1. Lisbeth Salander from The Millenium Trilogy by Stieg Larsson
If you don't know who Lisbeth Salander is, you must be living 20,000 feet under the sea and I feel sorry for you because you will love her. She's so badass with her clothing, her look, just everything. Plus she's a hacker, super smart and just, UGH! You should understand that I may have fallen in love with her awesomeness! And she's less than 5 feet! If pushing an ax into your notorious dad ain't a sign of badass-ness, then I don't know what is. Add the tattoos and piercings? Nuff said.

Basic Necessities When Reading (The Misfit Edition)

Hi, I am Jayvee and I am a proud booknerd and reading books is my life. But it is always important to know that like life itself, reading has its necessities and it is important to have those whenever you do end up reading. Reading is a serious task to consider, so here are some of the basic necessities you need when reading.

mshcdn.com

1. Proper Lighting- I honestly do not believe in this need though I did say otherwise. I tend to read with only a cellphone flashlight which I know does not benefit my eyes one bit. Blame my father and reading habits. Ugh. Anyways, make sure that you have some sort of wide lighting coverage when reading. It shouldn’t just be the book that is properly lit, but also the surroundings. I had times when I end up looking in the dark after reading with a small light, causes flashes. Believe me, you don’t want to go through with it. A night stand may also help if you have one, or those on your headboards if you are snazzy!

One year ago, Callie was found in an abandoned apartment, scrawling words on the wall: "I KILLED HIM. His blood is on my hands. His heart is in my soul. I KILLED HIM." But she remembers nothing of that night or of the previous thirty-six hours. All she knows is that her father, the reverend at the Church of the Holy Promise, is missing, as is Hannah, a young girl from the parish. Their disappearances have to be connected and Callie knows that her father was not a righteous man. Since that fateful night, she's been plagued by graphomania -- an unending and debilitating compulsion to write. The words that flow from Callie's mind and through her pen don't seem to make sense -- until now.
As the anniversary of Hannah's vanishing approaches, more words and memories bubble to the surface and a new guy in school might be the key to Callie putting together the puzzle. But digging up the secrets she's buried for so long might be her biggest mistake.

Stacking The Shelves #2: Generosity And Deals

Stacking The Shelves is a feature hosted by Tynga’s Reviews where bloggers share what books (both physical and digital) they received, won, bought, and borrowed.

So this is the second episode of Stacking The Shelves for me!!! *throws confetti* I should have updated this a long time ago, but unfortunately, having a camera around Manila was something I could not ask for even if my sister and my cousins were loaded on phone cameras and stuff. I was just a little sad to borrow it. I promise you. It ain't pride. I was just embarrassed.

Anyway, here are the stuff I've scavenged around April and May!

The Good Luck of Right Now by Matthew Quick (2014)

Title: The Good Luck of Right Now
Author: Matthew Quick
Publication: Harper, February 11th 2014
Format: Hardcover, 281 pages
Source: Own copy, Won on giveaway by Snow Drop Dreams
Synopsis:
For thirty-eight years, Bartholomew Neil has lived with his mother. When she gets sick and dies, he has no idea how to be on his own. His redheaded grief counselor, Wendy, says he needs to find his flock and leave the nest. But how does a man whose whole life has been grounded in his mom, Saturday mass, and the library learn how to fly?

Bartholomew thinks he’s found a clue when he discovers a “Free Tibet” letter from Richard Gere hidden in his mother’s underwear drawer. In her final days, mom called him Richard—there must be a cosmic connection. Believing that the actor is meant to help him, Bartholomew awkwardly starts his new life, writing Richard Gere a series of highly intimate letters. Jung and the Dalai Lama, philosophy and faith, alien abduction and cat telepathy, the Catholic Church and the mystery of women are all explored in his soul-baring epistles. But mostly the letters reveal one man’s heartbreakingly earnest attempt to assemble a family of his own.

A struggling priest, a “Girlbrarian,” her feline-loving, foul-mouthed brother, and the spirit of Richard Gere join the quest to help Bartholomew. In a rented Ford Focus, they travel to Canada to see the cat Parliament and find his biological father . . . and discover so much more.

Book Nerd Special RECAP: #VTRinPH

(c) National Book Store

To wait for April 26 was not an easy task. You’d have to be informed of Tahereh Mafi’s, Ransom Riggs’ and Veronica Rossi’s visit to the Philippines early in January and to wait for three more months was vexing and I wished I had Hermione’s time turner to speed things up. But I guess I was thankful for the wait because I got to save up for the books I needed and got to prepare my emotions and physicality for it. My peculiar family and I planned out so many things beforehand to prepare ourselves for the tiring but fun event. Before the event, I headed to Manila from Batangas and stayed at my sister’s apartment which was nearer at the transportation terminal in Bicutan. Unfortunately though, I slept at around 2am. I didn’t know why. I wasn’t exactly excited even if that were what’s supposed to be, but I didn’t feel anything. I guess it was from the exhaustion and someone who I was texting with in the middle of the night. I blame him for it. You know who you are. LOL!

MISFIT TALKS: I Just Met Abed, And This Is What You Do With #SixSeasonsAndAMovie?

I’ve been cooped up in my sister’s apartment for a few weeks, with very limited internet connection supply coz her broadband broke, and well, all hell broke loose! As you may have noticed, I have also encountered the problem of updating my blog often, so I’m truly sorry for that. Anyway, the reason for this rant is because after getting back into the world of social media, for probably a day, I discovered that one of my favorite shows in the whole, entire universe, COMMUNITY, was cancelled.

(Warning... A LOT of Abed and Troy GIF's)

LIFE OF A BLOGGER: 101 Things I Love

Life Of A Blogger is hosted by Jessi from Novel Heartbeat where we let people know more about our lives outside of blogging so they can get to know us better!

This the first time I'm participating in this and I'm quite late, but better late than never. To be honest, you know a lot about me already, I think.

The topic for this Thursday is: 101 Things You Love... This is gonna be a task! And I don't even know how this can be done in an easy yet fast manner! LOL! Imma do my best!

Cover Reveal + Thoughts: Blood Of Olympus by Rick Riordan

Title: Blood of Olympus, THE HEROES OF OLYMPUS
BOOK 5
Publisher: Disney-Hyperion
Format: Hardcover

Synopsis:

Though the Greek and Roman crewmembers of the "Argo II" have made progress in their many quests, they still seem no closer to defeating the earth mother, Gaea. Her giants have risen-all of them, and they're stronger than ever. They must be stopped before the Feast of Spes, when Gaea plans to have two demigods sacrificed in Athens. She needs their blood-the blood of Olympus-in order to wake.
The demigods are having more frequent visions of a terrible battle at Camp Half-Blood. The Roman legion from Camp Jupiter, led by Octavian, is almost within striking distance. Though it is tempting to take the Athena Parthenos to Athens to use as a secret weapon, the friends know that the huge statue belongs back on Long Island, where it "might" be able to stop a war between the two camps.
The Athena Parthenos will go west; the "Argo II" will go east. The gods, still suffering from multiple personality disorder, are useless. How can a handful of young demigods hope to persevere against Gaea's army of powerful giants? As dangerous as it is to head to Athens, they have no other option. They have sacrificed too much already. And if Gaea wakes, it is game over.

Thoughts on the cover: There were a lot of Demigods whom I talked to on social media websites that have 50/50 takes on this one. Some of them like it, while others wish that the cover included all seven Greek and Roman demigods.

To be honest, I quite like this cover. It gives a shroud of mystery to what exactly is gonna happen. And I pray that it wouldn't be the death of *flails*! I cannot say! Yes, I am not one of the haters, but yes, I did agree on the part that they could've included more characters. But here's to the secret of the cover and what's going to happen! Cheers!

Expected Date of Release: October 7, 2014

With the help of sun-kissed Eight Beaufort, who knows what Barrie wants before she knows herself, the last Watson heir starts to unravel her family's twisted secrets. May Playlist: TOP 3

1.) Problem by Ariana Grande featuring Iggy Azalea
As you may already know from my previous Music Pods, I have featured Ariana Grande’s album Yours Truly which includes wonderful tracks such as Baby I, Right There and of course, Almost Is Never Enough. And she’s back, kicking again with her new single, PROBLEM which is quite the problem maker because it is number one on the iTunes Charts for a while now.

Ariana’s voice is serene, even when the song feels very hip-hop-ish. It’s fun, upbeat, and sassy even, coz of Iggy Azalea’s rap which brings on the added spice to Ariana’s powerful and high pitched vocal. I’m pretty sure you won’t have a problem listening to Ariana’s new single, yes?

Listen to the song here:

2.) All of Me by John Legend

This song has been playing on my head and my house for a month now and I think that I have influenced my Dad to listen to some John Legend. This beautifully written song incorporates passion, love and dedication to your one true love; the willingness to give everything to that person without conditions or costs. John Legend has another wonderful ballad that has stayed on the charts for quite a while now. It is a song worthy of making your head spin with its dizzyingly beautiful melody and rhythm. It’s just perfect. Guys, I suggest you play this to your soulmate, and you are good to go.

Listen to the song here:

3. Sing by Ed Sheeran feat. Pharrell Williams

I’ve never done a feature on Ed Sheeran, but he is one of my ultimate favorites and I adore his album “+” which I have played constantly for over a year now. Sing is one of his newest single from his sophomore album "x"  features an upbeat vocal reminiscent of his song You Don’t Need Me, I Don’t Need You. He’s like every other musician with a guitar, but he has that charm with those lyrics of his that gets girls everywhere swooned by them everytime. It’s no wonder that Ed has had millions of his song sold worldwide, and this new single proves one of his greatest songs, yet again. Everyone will sing their heart out with this.

To Die In A Summer Dress

(It's been 2 months since I last updated my Story Board page, but I have made a few stories, it's just that I've been busy with other posts. Damn, I am killing myself. I hope that you like this one, and please, don't murder me! Thanks Misfits!)

I hate people. The touch, the feel, the sound, I hate it all. If I can confine my senses and bottle them up, I would. I would walk past people, cross the street and think that God must hate me for putting me in a place so horrid where people would only look at their phones, slobber each other up and laugh at the most trivial and useless things. Where has the complexity of the world drifted? Everyone thinks that they are living in future, but they are a bunch of idiots if they think that since they can’t even do something easeful for the world. If everyone would just be intelligent enough, we’d all have flying cars and free passes to movies. I hate people. They make me sick.
